Destiny's Edge
Indygo stood facing the airlock in a spacesuit two sizes too big. She let out a long breath, waiting for the air to be vacuumed out. Reading the name "Destiny's Edge" on the airlock, only made her grumble. Lights, her lights that always surrounded her, shifted to black and red.
What is this, Indygo's thoughts raced. The sixth time that I have been on "Destiny's Edge" Same starship, different dimension. Indygo continued in her head and cursed the galactic multi-universal hand that liked flinging her across the mega-verse."I really don't like this ship," Indygo mutters.
Indygo activated her com unit."Bridge, this is Indy. I am at the airlock"
"Indy this is Nicole,"said the voice over the com. "Shields are holding, but not for much longer."
Indygo places her hand over the airlock control and the door opens to space. She lifts up an energy pack from the floor. Her lights, like an aurora, shifted to yellow and blue.
The ship shuttered as an energy wave hits the shied and hull. Indygo caught herself by grabbing the door, and saw the hull darken before her eyes.
"Bridge, I am going out the airlock." Indygo begun her journey across "Destiny's Edge's"
outer hull. "What's the timing on that pulsar, when will the next pluses strike us." Indygo's aurora of lights turn to a deep blue reflecting her emotions. She struggled to calm herself for the task at hand.
"Next pulse in four minutes," said Nicole excitement building in her voice."We are loosing thirty seconds with each hit. Need to hurry!"
"I am on it," Indygo stated back, moving along the hull to the maintenance hatch. Knowing this was most likely a one way trip.
Indygo looked back in her memories on how she ended up here. A scientist in charge of a research team that tried to convert matter to energy and back again. She had climbed into the dematerialization chamber. When she open a panel sparkling dust filled the air. The dust radiated a rainbow of colors. Then that hatch closed behind her and the chamber begun to energize. She didn't have a chance to scream before her molecules and atoms, were mixed and combine with the strange dust.
Some very odd and weird dreams later, she found herself in the ruins the complex, glowing like a neon light. It was five years later, and she was blame for the accident. Indygo learned later, another research team, at the complex, had woken up something on an alien ship they were studying. The strange
dust was nanites from that ship.
"So long ago," Indygo mutters to herself.
Indygo brought herself back to the present, when she reached the maintenance hatch. She begun opening the hatch as quickly as she could. She knew time was growing short.
"Thirty seconds until the next pulse, Indy" said Nicole in near panic.
"I am at the hatch." Indygo moves the hatch out of her way."Hooking up the energy pack." She connected pack to the engine control system.
"Ten seconds" came from the com unit. Indygo felt the wave start the hit the ship. She placed herself in front of the open hatch panel and focus with all her might. A personal energy shield extended out from Indygo, all shades of purple. She hoped, she prayed it would be enough.
The bridge waisted no time, they started the engines and begun turning the starship away from the pulsar. Yet the energy wave still hit Indygo hard, pain flooded her whole body. The spacesuit gone in an instant, and the particles that she were made up of, were dieing. She held on, pushed more energy into
her shield. She glanced at her right foot and saw it turn black and crumble away, as the pulse ended.
Indygo felt tears in her eyes and blinked them away as they turned to ice crystals. She slowly turned over and hearing the com unit in hear head. "Indygo, hang on we are turning your side of the hull away from the pulsar."
It took most of her strength to focus her thoughts into the com. "No "Indygo's thoughts went through the com. "You need to get as far away as you can. No detours, Nicole and go find that planet your are looking for. Just don't name any kids Indygo, it's bad luck. Indygo out."
Indygo felt herself fading from consciousness, another wave or two would hit the ship before it could get out of range. She hadn't the energy to do much more, but the nanites had already had an plan. Indygo's body melted into a glowing indigo mist and poured into the the maintenance hatch. There it shifted form into
a very dense metallic ball. The next two wave did hit the Destiny's Edge, the metal ball that was Indygo, was brunt black.
Time passes , Indygo find herself in a cargo container. There was a case, what looked liked local money, tools and a note that said "Gone to fine my planet, go find yours, Nicole. "
Indygo collects the case and wanders out on a space station called Botany Bay, trying to recall what happen and who is Nicole.
