Local citizens and business owners were shocked today as a massive fireball exploded through the main loading doors of the New Nippon Mining interest facility. Fire suppression systems aided by colony citizens managed to douse the raging fire before any serious damage occurred.
Early investigation of the explosion determines that a valve on a mobile mining crusher had not been replaced causing super-heated escaping gases to ignite stored containers of fuel and liquid coolant. Records reveal the valve was overdue for replacement. Management did not respond before press time to inquiries regarding policies for replacement parts.
While no one was killed, several miners received serious burns, leaving the families of the victims turning to new Nippon for answers to their safety concerns. When asked for comment, new Nippon executives were quick to condemn on-site safety practices.
"It was negligence, plain and simple." One executive commented, who declined to be named for this story. "The facility had been allowed to run almost entirely automated, with virtually no oversight. We assure the injured workers, our employees and our customers that those responsible will no longer be allowed to continue with this company."
In the wake of the accident, rumors of a "Clean sweep" of the facility staff continue to grow. It has been confirmed that the facility foreman, supervisor and most of the managing staff will not have their contracts renewed at the end of the production quarter, causing a flood of new applications and interest for the lucrative managing positions in botany bay's mining facility.
